These chains that weigh me down, my guilt I wear like a crown, SHE is my Breath to Bear

Jack O’Donnell
I thought telling my story would purge my demons, but it didn’t. If anything, it brought them closer to the surface.
Now, they’re threatening to drag me back into the darkness and stop me from moving on with the journalist who captured my story and my heart.
The guilt I bear is heavy, the road I’ve traveled long and littered with scars that run deep.
I’ve been down this road before, in love with two women at the same time.
It didn’t end well.
Erin’s running scared – for good reason – but I won’t let her get away that easy.
Am I strong enough to get rid of the ghosts from my past in order to have a future with Erin?

Erin Langford
Journalists are supposed to be objective, to look at a story as if you’re outside a window looking in.
That’s what I was taught.
That’s what I should have done.
Instead, I fell through the glass and right into Jack O’Donnell’s bed.
The memoire I was supposed to write turned into more than I bargained for.
I’m in too deep.
So far gone.
He’s like a bad drug, making his way through my veins, and stopping my heart.
Yet, I still want more.
There’s just one problem – he’s still in love with someone else. She’s the ghost in the room, the girl that ruined him for all others.
Am I strong enough to be the one to help him heal?

Breath to Bear is the second book in the Blood & Bone series written by author Paula Dombrowiak. I really loved the first book, Blood & Bone, and was happy to hear that Jack and Erin’s story continued in Breath to Bear. To fully appreciate and understand the storyline, it is recommended that you read the series in chronological order.

Jack O’Donnell has a lot of baggage, and he’s been trying to turn his life around. He thought that having Erin write his story would help him move on, but it actually made it worse for him. Jack still has a lot of guilt and just doesn’t know how to let it go. He cares a lot for Erin, but there’s still something preventing him from moving on. Erin knows this and begins putting more space between them. However, she still loves him. Can Jack and Erin put both of their past baggage to rest and find their way towards each other?

Breath to Bear was a fabulous story, and I had a hard time putting it down. It’s a definite add to your TBR list!

Jack O’Donnell‘s life was teetering on the edge. Forced, as a teenager, to make a decision that would change his life forever, he left his hometown to pursue a music career with collaborator Mia Stone. Living in a van by the beach was not the glamorous Los Angeles lifestyle they had envisioned but sparked the most creative time of their lives. Making it big was all they ever wanted but when it happened, friendships were tested, hearts were broken, and lives were changed forever.
Erin Langford is a seasoned journalist tasked with writing a feature on Jack O’Donnell. Being at the right place at the right moment puts Erin in a unique position to get the story, but at what cost? Having preconceived notions about Jack’s rock star image, she learns there is more to a story than just the headlines. The two embark on a journey through Jack’s past where he recounts the rise and fall of his band Mogo and the irreplaceable bond between himself and collaborator Mia Stone. The feature she thought she was going to write, turns into so much more.
Blood and Bone is an evocative story told in alternating time periods, from the early ’90s to the present day about deep bonds between flawed people whose only outlet of self-expression is through their music.

Blood & Bone is Paula Dombrowiak’s debut novel, and it tells the story of Jack O’Donnell. I have read many rocker books, and they often retell the same story, over and over. I was very happy to see that Blood & Bone had an original storyline, and I truly enjoyed it.

Jack O’Donnell is an aging rock star who decides to finally tell his story to journalist Erin Langston. The book then switches back and forth between the past and the present, but not in a confusing way.  We learn how his band Mogo was formed and his relationships with his bandmate Mia and ex-wife Amber.

I really enjoyed reading Blood & Bone, and I was thoroughly engrossed in Jack’s story.  He definitely lived a rock-star life, but at times I definitely felt sorry for what he went through! I will say that the story ended very differently than I expected.

Blood & Bone is a definite add to your TBR list!
