Rock Me by Rebecca Brooke - This Week's #TBT Book Suggestion

At least that’s what I wanted to believe. What I wanted the world to see. Five years of trying to find the girl I hid from the world.
I wouldn’t let the bullies win. I couldn’t.
What was I supposed to do when he walked into the building? He’d made my high school years a living hell.
But, he doesn’t recognize me.
How do I prove he didn’t break me? Simple, take him home for a one-night stand.
At least it sounded like a good idea at the time.
Cole Wallace spent his high school years being the best. At least the best on the football field. He went to college with professional football in his sights. When a career ending injury snatched those dreams away, Cole spent many years putting the pieces of his life back together.
Mari thought she’d put all it behind her. Until the night, Cole walked into the bar where her band had played for the night. He made her life a living hell. Except now he doesn’t recognize her. But Mari’s not the same person she used to be.
A one-night stand should teach him a lesson

Rock Me is an emotional standalone story from author Rebecca Brooke. It’s told from both Mari and Cole’s point of view with flashes of events from the past. The story is written very smoothly, and I quickly became attached to Mari and Cole as they grew older and wiser.
Rock Me begins with Mari, in the present day, getting ready to go on stage with her band, Jaded Ivory. She has anxiety and emotional issues as a result of her painful high school years. It has left lasting mental scars that often cripple her.
Cole is currently an assistant coach for a high school football team. He notices two kids on his football team bulling a girl and it brings back memories of when he was in high school. Cole begins to contemplate his life and he regrets a lot of his behaviors.
One evening Cole and his roommate go out for a couple of drinks. Cole is taken with the lead singer of the band playing and goes over to talk to her. What will happen when Mari sees Cole, her bully from high school, walking towards her? Will Cole recognize Mari?
Rock Me is absolutely fabulous, and I highly recommend it!
