Dubious - This Week's #TBT Book Suggestion

Dubious
The Loan Shark Duet # 1
By Charmaine Pauls
Release Date: October 10th, 2017

A DARK MAFIA ROMANCE

I’m a loan shark. Breaking people is in my blood. The Haynes’ were supposed to be a straightforward job. Go in and pull the trigger twice. One bullet for Charlie, one for his sister. But when I saw Valentina, I wanted her. Only, in our world, those who owe us don’t get second chances. No way in hell will my mother let her live. So I devised a plan to keep her.

It’s depraved.
It’s immoral.
It’s dubious.

It’s perfect.
Just like her.

* Dubious is Book 1 of The Loan Shark Duet and ends on a cliffhanger. Consent (Book 2) concludes the story.)

Wow!  This story just blew me away!

Dubious is an intense and emotional story and the first in the Loan Shark Duet by author Charmaine Pauls. It does end on a cliffhanger, but rest assured the second in the duet, Consent, is already released!

The storyline is unique and the characters are well developed and complex.   It did touch upon some difficult subject matters that some people may have a hard time with. I personally have read a lot of dark books and I believe Dubious was written perfectly.  The difficult scenes were not overly graphic, which was great as I have read some that were dark and very explicit.

Dubious grabbed me from the very beginning and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! A definite add to your TBR list!!

Consent
The Loan Shark Duet # 2
By Charmaine Pauls
Release Date: November 14th, 2017

A DARK MAFIA ROMANCE

When Gabriel broke down my door, he took over my body and life. Never with force, but always with clever manipulation. He stripped me of my independence, my defenses, and my clothes and turned me into an addict. My addiction is him.

Once, I had dreams and a future. Now, I have fears, scars, and insatiable needs. I’m damaged beyond repair, but if I’m to survive the most dangerous man in Johannesburg, I can’t allow him to break me, because broken toys are destined for the garbage dump.

* Consent concludes The Loan Shark Duet. Dubious (Book 1) must be read first in order to follow the story.

OVERALL 5 / 5

Consent is the second book in the Loan Shark Duet by author Charmaine Pauls. This story is not a standalone, and it must be read after Dubious, the first book in the duet. Dubious is an intense and emotional story, and it just blew me away! I couldn’t wait to read Consent to find out what happens next.Consent begins where we were left off with Valentina in a taxi leaving Gabriel’s house. She is such a strong woman, and I understood why she did it. Gabriel was in an awkward position, and I think he meant well but didn’t necessarily go about it the right way.

This story was more emotional than the first book and not as dark. I was more connected to the characters and felt their joy, pain, anger, sorrow, and happiness. I absolutely loved the ending!

A fabulous duet and a definite add to your TBR list!!!
