Beasts & Bourbon is the fifth book in the top shelf series from author Alta Hensley. This story can be read as a standalone romance, but I do recommend reading the series in order. It’s not a necessity, but I do love the stories and reading them will help you understand the backstories. Just know that it’s optional.
Beasts & Bourbon tells the story of Prince Roman Cassian, one of the board members of the New Orleans gentlemen’s club, Spiked Roses. Again, the majority of the story takes place outside of the club and inside the Iron Colt Brotherhood. We have been introduced to them in earlier stories, but we learn a bit more about their dealings within this story.
Cheri’s family was good friends with Prince Roman’s family, and she became betrothed to Prince Roman at an early age. She was taught proper etiquette and was groomed to be a princess, but she never enjoyed the spotlight. So, she walked away from it all. Eventually, they found her in Costa Rica and explained it was time to marry Prince Roman. But first, he has to tell Cheri some of his families dark secrets. Will Cheri still agree to marry Roman? Will she be able to handle was must happen in order the get married?
Beasts & Bourbon is a steamy quick read, and I enjoyed the blazing hot sex scenes. I wish the story was a little longer, I just wasn’t ready for the book to end.

Bastards and Whiskey is a dark erotic romance and the first in the Top Shelf series by author Alta Hensley. I enjoy reading dark stories but sometimes they can be repetitious. The plots tend to be similar or follow the same formula, sort of like a cookie cutter storyline. I love that Bastards and Whiskey is different than anything that I have read.
In this story, Anita Kyle grew up in an old broken-down trailer in a small town in Nevada. She worked as a caregiver to an elderly woman, Virgie, who happens to be her only friend. Virgie started to reminisce meeting her late husband and encouraged Anita to move to New Orleans. She gets a job as a cigar sommelier at the Spiked Rose, which happens to be a private gentlemen’s club which caters to the wealthy men and their kinky/taboo desires.
What will happen to Anita when she accepts a request by the head of the mafia family? Can Kenneth Saxon, one of the founding members of the Spiked Rose, help Anita when she gets in trouble? A captivating and really naughty story and a definite add to your TBR list!

In this story, Marlowe workers at the New Orleans gentlemen’s club Spiked Roses. She has been drooling over bad boy owner, Harley Crow for some time now. She finds out Harley will be attending this month’s tasting event for the first time. Even though he is an assassin and not a very nice guy, Marlowe believes she can handle him. She decides to participate in the tasting in hopes that Harley will pick her to taste. When he does, is Marlowe able to handle his dark ways?
A fantastic book with lots of twists and turns! I was thoroughly engrossed and cannot wait for the next in the series!

Devils & Rye mostly takes place away from New Orleans and Spiked Roses, but the book does begin there. Alec, one of the board members, gets an important letter from his best friend, Rhett. He begs Alec to hide his daughter Makayla and watch over her. Alec and Rhett have been friends for so long that Makayla grew up calling him Uncle Alec. While hiding out at her family’s lake house, their feelings for each other grow into something naughty and slightly taboo.
The story is suspenseful, steamy and a definite add to your TBR list.
