Eighteen year old Alexis Sinclair is lost in the darkness of grief. Since the death of her sister in a car accident, she can’t find the will to get out and enjoy life again. When she’s forced to face her biggest fear and take a summer Driver’s Ed course, she’s surprised to find hope in the most unlikely person.
Liam O’Connell is trouble. He isn’t proud of his dark past, and he knows Alexis is the one girl he has no business pursuing. Doing the right thing has never been easy for him, but this time, it just might be impossible.
The perfect girl and troubled boy are all wrong for each other, but as Liam helps Alexis cope with her grief, they realize nothing has ever felt more right.
That is, until Alexis uncovers a secret about Liam that breaks her heart.
Liam knows he can’t allow the one good thing in his life to walk away without a fight, and he’s determined to convince Alexis they can find their way out of the darkness together.
Can he prove he’s worthy of her, or is some love too tainted to be saved.

The Color of Us by Laura Ward is the second book in the College Bound Series featuring Alexis (Lex) and Liam. I did not get an opportunity to read the first book, The Pledge, and had no problems understanding and relating to this story. I was really moved reading The Color of Us. I felt the characters were very well developed as well as the story line. The story was so much more than a typical college romance novel.

I don’t want to give too many details as I do not want to spoil anything. Just know that Lex is going through a very tough time in her life. She has felt empty until she meets Liam, a bad boy who has gotten into some trouble. Even though they are opposites in personality, they both are very good for each other. Liam helps Lex feel again…making her happy and smile again, which in turn helps Liam believe in himself.

The Color of Us is a must read novel! I went through so many emotions while reading this book. There really was no aspect of this book that I did not like. One of my favorites of 2016….especially Liam! <3

“Liam O’Connell should come with a warning label – or maybe several. Warning: Not approved by parents. Warning: May cause heart palpitations. Warning: Magic lips may result in difficulty breathing. Warning: Intense feelings may cause panties to burst into flames.”

Title: The Pledge
Series: College Bound #1
Authors: Laura Ward & Christine Manzari
Release Date: July 27th, 2015

Taren needs a do-over. She’s decided the best way to put the high school bullies behind her is to pledge a Taylor-Swift-lip-syncing, beer-guzzling, sorority. Sisterhood helps Taren find the acceptance she’s always craved, but not the love she needs.

Alec wants freedom. To escape his father’s iron fist and unrealistic expectations, he pledges a campus acrobatics club where he finds that drugs and alcohol aren’t the only ways to get high. His addiction to danger helps him gain his independence, but it comes at a heavy price.

When the two cross paths, Alec fears his undeniable attraction to the party girl just might threaten everything he’s worked so hard to earn. Taren hasn’t forgotten that Alec humiliated her back in high school, but she also can’t deny the chemistry they share.

Alec and Taren have nothing in common, but fate is bound and determined to bring them together. They know falling in love is a risk, and yet it’s too hard to ignore. When their worlds clash and they both end up suffering, will they fight to stay together? Or are some pledges too hard to keep?

Title: The Sound of Your Heart
Series: College Bound #3
Authors: Laura Ward & Christine Manzari
Release Date: July 13th, 2018

Julie Prescott is the life of every party. She’s loud, witty, and uses her body and pretty face to get whatever she wants. She’s never had a problem hooking up with guys, or ditching them when they don’t live up to her standards. Julie has a list of exes a mile long and a reputation to match, but she’s looking for more than just a degree in college. She’s looking for Mr. Perfect.

Ben Sutherland is the enigmatic bassist of a popular local band. Born blind, Ben depends on his other senses to help him understand the world around him on a deeper level. His sultry voice and musical talent might make it impossible for him to go unnoticed on campus, but Ben isn’t looking for fame or groupies. He’s looking to perfect his music.

Julie’s been lusting after Ben for months and when she finally meets him at a party, her confidence is shaken when she discovers she can’t use her physical beauty to charm him. Even though she’s always relied on her looks, it’s her personality that wins Ben over and he’s determined to show her that she’s more than just a pretty face.

But falling in love is the easy part. Family lies, a questionable reputation, and the chance of a lifetime threaten to tear Ben and Julie apart. Can they trust the futures they’ve chosen or will they take the biggest risk of all and listen to the sound of their own hearts?

The Sound of Your Heart is the third book in the College Bound Series and an absolutely amazing story. This book can be read as a standalone romance, and it’s one that will stay with me for a long time! The characters are complex and so well developed. The storyline is captivating, and I was truly blown away by this intense and emotional book.

The second book in the series, The Color of Us, was one of my favorite books in 2016. When I saw The Sound of Your Heart, I clicked it without even reading the blurb. I just knew it was going to be fabulous, and it was. It was so much more.

One of my favorite books for 2018!

Laura Ward lives in Maryland with her loud and very loving three children and husband. She married her college sweetheart and is endlessly grateful for the support he has given her through all their years together, and especially toward her goal of writing books. When not picking up toy trucks, driving to lacrosse practice, or checking spelling homework, Laura is writing or reading romance novels. Her debut novel, NOT YET, is a Top 100 Amazon Bestseller.
The first thing Christine does when she’s getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She’s addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. Books, books, books. She also has a weakness for adventure, inappropriate humor, and coke (the caffeinated, bubbly kind). Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.
